As part of her residency* with CAC Brétigny, the artist Marlies Pöschl has been involved in numerous initiatives with a range of the regional institutions of Cœur d’Essone. She is inviting the public to discover, alongside her other activities, her work in moving images as well.

The three videos to be screened illustrate the artist’s interest in developing and challenging scripts that are both filmic and social. Pöschl focuses on the filmmaking process itself. She interacts with protagonists from various backgrounds and contexts to create situations whose outcomes remain indeterminate. Improvisation and role play, as well as the themes of love and chance, are part of this process.

The Machine Stops (2012) features an old abandoned coal mine, which becomes the starting point for numerous stories, be they imagined, lived, or superimposed. Sternheim (2011) draws its inspiration from the TV talent show format and a Bildungsroman (coming-of-age novel) published in 1771. It follows a group of teenagers who are making their way between fiction and reality. L’École de Simili- (The Simili- School, 2014) highlights a new form of learning in which language becomes a creator of both cohesion and imbalance.
